Time to improve the way you play Habbo

Hi all!

In the spirit of Fixing the Foundations, we have some exciting news for you! A mega patch for the Classic client is underway.

This has been a large effort, and covers some much needed aspects that needed improvement in Habbo. It includes:

  • Major Classic client bugfixes
  • Address missing feature parity gaps between the Classic and beta clients
  • Addition of highly requested improvements
  • A LOT of minor bugfixes!
  • But mostly importantly….. Unexpected game-changing features that you didn't know you needed!

And did I hear someone say Marketplace rework and Badge rework? Must've been the wind.


Patch notes

There's a lot of different focus points in this patch note. So feel free to skip to the parts you're interested in. In total, there's around 100-200 changes depending on how you count them.


Chat

  • Reintroduce old staff chat style into new chat system
  • Add chat size selection
  • MAJOR BUGFIX -> Fix chatstyle selector disappearing
  • MAJOR BUGFIX -> Fix unclickable region left behind chat history
  • When clicking on the room toolbar or somewhere else, do not click-through it on the chat history
  • Slide chat history in/out
  • Clicking chat history handle button to no longer click-through room
  • Implement wheel scrolling in chat history
  • Start chat history a bit higher
  • Update chat history scrollbar height correctly
  • "bounce back" in chat history when scrolling too far
  • Auto-scroll in chat history only when looking at recent items
  • Retain current position in chat history when reopening within same room session, except when looking at most recent new messages
  • Fix the behavior of the ignore button from chat history
    • Button used to be broken
    • Button is now hidden for pets/bots, yourself, and notifications
  • Fix chatbar snap location to not overlap with toolbar icons

Room toolbar

  • Tweaks for the room-toolbar slide in/out animation
  • Room info to not show when clicking the room toolbar handle
  • Disable auto-displaying room info entirely
  • Fix room toolbar handle height to stay the same when opening/closing
  • No clickthrough into room when clicking room tools window
  • Remove room link window when clicking button to open window again, in line with other room tools UX
  • Remove incorrect tooltip from "link to this room" in room tools
  • MAJOR BUGFIX -> Reimplement "room visit history" & "previous"/"next" button in room toolbar, which was wrongfully implemented
  • Fix missing asset visibility for "go to previous room" button

Camera & Zoom

Try scrolling with your mouse wheel whilst pressing the CTRL key once the updates are live. A new world will open! The zoomed-in playing experience has improved significantly.

  • MAJOR BUGFIX -> fix multiple zoom in/out camera jump causes
  • Fix ctrl+mousewheel scroll direction, add a boundary of zoom level 5/ 16x
  • Add FPS independency to room zooming speed
  • Update hovered tile correctly when zooming
  • Fix chat bubble positioning when zooming
  • Fix chatbubble pointer logic & smooth updating
  • Game object pixel snaps to current zoom levels instead of zoom level 1, for smoother animations in zoomed modes
  • Zoom in/zoom out button
  • Add improvements to avatar context menu location while zooming

Friendbar & general UI interactions

  • Transition animation on left bottom bar & friend bar, when collapsing/expanding
  • Fix Y offset direction for pressable state of some clickable elements
  • MAJOR BUGFIX -> Fix rare window layout shift in variable picker, chest overview, chest settings layout
  • Reimplemented smooth scrolling based on Chromium implementation
  • Make the scrollbar smoothly scrollable as well
  • Support for mousepads / dual scroll wheel mouses & shift+scroll horizontal scrolling
  • Fix mousewheel smooth scrolling on mousepad
  • Remove scroll by dragging (press down + move mouse)

Room settings & Personal settings

  • Room settings
    • Move chat settings to personal settings
      • New category: Chat Settings -> Chat mode, bubble size, bubble speed
      • Keep flood-protection in room settings
      • Remove max. chat hearing distance entirely
    • Rename "Vip/Chat" tab to "HC"
    • Option to not leave room when walking in door tile
    • Configure custom timeout when user starts sleeping
      • Uncheck to never sleep
    • Configure custom timeout when user gets autokick
      • Uncheck to never autokick
    • New pet setting -> mute pets
    • Remove "Enlist room in Navigator top lists by furniture contents"
    • Rename "Disable room blocking" to "Enable walking through other users"
  • MAJOR BUGFIX -> Fix trade settings when "Room owner and users with rights" is selected
  • Remove "prefer old chat" setting for good (& client cleanup)
  • Remove "Character Settings" & "Privacy Settings" from in-game settings, they are web settings

Floor Plan Editor

  • Make the Floor Plan Editor resizeable
  • Fix bug in Floorplan Editor where drawing would not register if expanding room boundaries too quickly
  • Visual fixes for Floor Plan Editor dropdowns
  • Fix mousewheel scrolling in Floorplan Editor (+ horizontal scrolling!)

Navigator

  • Navigator:
    • Fix bottom alignment of "saved searches" in Navigator when resizing the window
    • Add scrollbar to saved searches when they overflow
    • Fix bug where saved searches hover state would remain after not hovering anymore

Profiles & Social

  • Online friend indicator (art by @uzuki)
  • Profile view fixes:
    • Fix "add friend" button cut off
    • Fix "profile is hidden" centering
    • Fix incorrect online friend indicator in for hidden profiles
    • MAJOR BUGFIX -> Fix privacy of offline-mode users breached through relationship status
    • Fix bug where profile shows with weird relationship localizations
    • Fix bug where badges show on the wrong person
  • Fix mini profiles sometimes showing localizations instead of relationship statuses
  • Fix bug where "find new friends" in the friend bar would disappear or go out of bounds consistently after clicking it
  • Ability to leave groups with frozen homerooms if you don't have furniture in the room

Interaction & Rate Limits

  • Fix doorbell bug where users don't enter the room when clicking too fast
  • Fix speed at which trade items can be removed
  • Fix speed at which sticky notes can be placed
  • Fix speed at which group membership requests and members can be accepted/rejected/kicked
  • Fix speed at which items from Shop can be purchased
  • Fix speed at which Habbo's can be searched
  • Fix speed at which pets can be removed from rooms
  • Fix speed at which pets can be scratched

Window System

  • Window inconsistencies:
    • Fix HC Center view not being draggable
    • Fix HC Center view close button behavior
  • Fix UI framework bug where centered elements could slowly drift away from their center position
  • Fix UI framework bug where scroll lists slightly jump location when an item is removed/added
  • Fix photo confirmation dialog from stretching with window resize

Shop & Builders Club

  • Shop & BC:
    • Fix default Shop height to fit front page properly again
      • BC retains taller default height to accommodate for BC blocks color picker
    • Restore latest visited category when switching between Shop & Builders Club Warehouse
    • Rename "Builders' Club" to "Builders Club"
    • MAJOR BUGFIX -> Fix Shop search & BC search
    • Fix BC to open without tabs
    • Search bar for badge displays & page refactor
    • Make badge display Shop page stretchable with the window size
    • Fix bugged price location in "room event" Shop page price
    • In clothing preview mode, have the ability to:
      • Rotate your avatar
      • Zoom in/out
      • Try different actions (stand, walk, dance, sit, lay, wave)
    • Support rotating furni & wallitems in the preview mode
    • Show indicator if an item is non-tradable or non-recyclable

Marketplace

  • Offering items:
    • Support for offering multiple items at once in Classic
    • Remove travelling salesman achievement restriction
    • Fix localization to say "7 days" instead of "168 hours"
    • Fix localization to not be cut
    • Fix furni name to autowrap to next line instead of being cut
    • Show average/lowest/suggested price when offering a furni, and a button to use it
  • Your offers page:
    • Increase speed at which items can be cancelled, and soften other related marketplace time limits
    • Support for cancelling all items at once in Classic
    • Refactor "own offers" page to become lag free
    • Allow spam cancelling own offers
    • Update info text in "own offers" page, which was outdated
    • Allow searching own offers
    • Stop Marketplace history from clearing when claiming the earnings in the Earnings window
    • Add a dropdown to marketplace offers to select between OPEN | SOLD | EXPIRED + different color coding for each type
      • Ability to clear "Sold" and "Expired" entries with a button
  • Fix DDOS exploit in Marketplace
  • Option to combine LTDs in Marketplace entries, ON by default
  • Group plant seed marketplace entries by rarity level
  • Introduce a new class of Marketplace furni: "usable" furni, these will be grouped by whether they have been used or not. Furniture falling under this class are:
    • Love locks (locked = used)
    • Viking coties (burned at least once = used)
    • Crackables (more than 1 hit = used)
  • Remove incorrect average price from old posters
  • Behind the scenes database improvements related to Marketplace

Inventory

  • Add inventory filters
  • Keep filters active when reopening inventory
  • Click ESC in search bar to clear search
  • Pet tab:
    • Search by name
    • Filter by pet type
    • Filter by monsterplant rarity
    • Add rarity overlay to monsterplant icons
  • Badges tab:
    • Rename "Achieved badges" to "Badges"
    • Filter by normal badges/achievements
      • Filter by badge rarities
      • Show badge rarity + amount of holders
  • Align the grids in furni/pet/badge tabs

Gameplay & Room Interaction

  • Move/place furni = allows to click through users & can be placed where users are
  • Add ability to move/rotate bot
  • Remember furni placement direction when placing multiple (use scroll wheel to rotate)
  • Monsterplants will no longer open context menu when shift clicked for rotations
  • Stacktile additions:
    • New next/previous button on magic stack/walk tile to align with relevant heights on the occupied tiles
    • Smart "next move" prediction when already at the top of the stack
  • Update height on the fly while dragging the slider, rather than only change when you release your mouse
  • Fix bug where current height wouldn't correctly reflect in the stacktile
  • Add more sticky note colors: white, orange, red, cyan

Avatar

  • Outfit editor:
    • Visual fixes: fix unnecessary white margin to the right, move wardrobe button as it's getting too cramped
    • Make wardrobe slots amount configurable
  • Fix clothing wearing correctly when using a clothing furni

Anti-Scam

  • Namescam detection in trade. Open warning window:
    • If someone in the room has a similar name
    • If someone in your friend list has a similar name
  • Inability to close the window for a few seconds

Photos

  • Increase rate limit on "purchase photo" (avoid stuck buttons)
  • Remove orange photo placeholder, replace with normal photo with a blur
  • Increase limit of items on a single photo (errors too often in normal rooms)

Landing view

  • Fix bonus bag promo visual cutoff bug in landing view
  • Fix mistaken white line on the left side of the landing view
  • Remove unnecessary scrollbar
  • Cleanup hotel overview code making resizing clunky

Miscellaneous

  • A new easter egg somewhere in the classic client
  • Fix bug where "set home room" button doesn't visually indicate the change
  • 67
  • Added ":showstats" command, showing your ping, fps, and frame time
  • Added :ping command
  • Increase favorite room limit from 30 to 100

Badge rework

And last but not least, we have an incoming Badge rework, which is also a foundational rework, and it needs some background.

Badges have slowly started to lose their value. Due to the inflation of badges, we're experiencing:

  • Users expecting badges to be obtained easily
  • Special badges not being easily recognizable anymore, which isn't fun for the users who achieved them
  • Badges becoming more about being the "number of badges possessed" rather than the rarity of the badge

All of that has the logical result that hard-to-earn badges, which need hard grinding and would be main engagement drivers, are less attractive to acquire. That is the opposite of what we want to achieve with badges

To solve this critical issue with a core Habbo feature, we're reworking badges by introducing badge rarities and in-game leaderboards!

  • Introducing badge rarities:
    • 1 holder = Unique badge (Gold)
    • 2-3 holders = Legendary badge (Ruby)
    • 3-5 holders = Mythical badge (Purple)
    • 6-10 holders = Epic badge (Blue)
    • 11-50 holders = Rare badge (Green)
    • Others = Common
  • Add badge information on hover in the extended profile view (same as in-room miniprofile)
  • Make badge information include: badge rarity + amount of holders if relevant.
  • Show a glow animation when seeing user profile and the user has rare (or higher) badges. Also show glow animation on hover
  • Show the user's total amount of badges in their extended profile
  • Show the user's ranking in the global leaderboard of "most badges" in the mini profile + extended profile if they're ranked (top 500)
  • Badge leaderboard:
    • Leaderboard with max top 500 users for:
      • "Most badges"
      • "Top achievement level" (sum of all the user's achievement badge levels)
      • Leaderboard for amount of badges for each rarity from Rare or higher
    • Fast navigation with smart local synchronization system
    • Fast server-side updating of the leaderboard, max +-2min delay
  • Badge display furnis:
    • Rename "Trophy" title to "Badge Display"
    • Base the UI color on the badge rarity. Standard silver for common badges. Standard gold for Unique rarity
    • Include the rarity text & amount of holders in the inscription

Final word

We greatly appreciate all the passionate Habbos for sticking around long enough to see these critical changes happen. While we know some of them are overdue, we also know that many of these will be nice surprises to all of you. So we hope you enjoy these updates that will surely elevate your playing experience.
